Privacy Policy

Yui Works (“we”, “us”, or “our”) describes how we handle information in the iOS application Mew (the “App”) in this Privacy Policy (“Policy”).

1. Scope

This Policy applies to the App and related web pages we provide (Terms of Use, this Policy, and similar pages).

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account information from Sign in with Apple: identifiers provided by Apple, email address (may be hidden by Apple settings), and optional display name
  • Cat profiles: name, breed, birthday, adoption day, profile image
  • Post content: cat photos, captions, cat-language reactions
  • Safety-related information: report details, identifiers of blocked cats
  • Support messages sent to [email protected]

2.2 Photo metadata

  • Capture date: We read the capture date from the Exif data of photos you select and store it with your post, so albums and the year in review can be organized by when photos were taken.
  • Capture country: If a photo contains location data, we convert it to a country name (country code) on your device and store only that. Precise coordinates such as latitude and longitude never leave your device and are never stored. You can turn this off at any time in the app settings (“Record photo country” on My Page), and you can also remove the country from an individual post before publishing. Capture country is not currently displayed in the App, but a future update may show the country name on posts.

2.3 Information collected automatically

  • Usage logs: app launch, feed load, publish, sign-in, and similar events (recorded as on-device OS logs; no third-party analytics SDK)
  • Device and technical data: OS version, device model, app version, network status (for troubleshooting)
  • Push notification tokens when notification features are enabled
  • Purchase information: your subscription (Mew Plus) status. Payments are processed by Apple; we never receive your credit card details.

2.4 Information stored on your device

Including guest use before sign-in, we may store the following locally (UserDefaults and similar):

  • Temporary state for browsing, likes, and blocks
  • Locally created cat profiles and draft posts

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  1. Provide, maintain, and improve the App
  2. Authenticate users and manage accounts
  3. Sync and display posts and cat profiles
  4. Provide memory features such as albums and the year in review (capture date and country are used for this purpose)
  5. Operate safety features such as reports and blocks
  6. Prevent abuse and respond to Terms violations
  7. Provide premium features (Mew Plus) and verify purchases
  8. Send push notifications
  9. Respond to inquiries
  10. Comply with legal obligations

Ads are served in a non-personalized configuration, and we do not track users for advertising. See Google’s advertising policies for details.

5. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only when:

  • You consent
  • Required by law
  • Necessary to protect life, body, or property
  • Needed to operate the service through processors such as Supabase

6. Retention and Deletion

  • Using “Delete Account” in the App removes your data from our servers, including your account, cat profiles, posts, and photos.
  • Safety and moderation records may be kept for as long as needed to keep the community safe.
  • We retain information as required by law.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. Traffic is encrypted with TLS.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information by contacting [email protected].

  • Capture-country recording can be turned off at any time in the app settings (on by default).
  • You can delete your account and data from within the App at any time using “Delete Account”.
  • Guest data stored on your device can be removed by deleting the App or clearing local data.
  • You can revoke Sign in with Apple access from iOS Settings > Apple ID > Password & Security > Apps Using Apple ID.

9. Children

The App is not intended for children under 13. Parents and guardians should supervise use by minors.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy. Material changes will be announced in the App or on the web. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Policy.
